You Can Patent Anything

I'm currently enrolled in a class at Arizona State University titled Entrepreneurship for Engineers. The class is taught by Michael Lechter, writer of Other People's Money and Protecting Your Number One Asset (Rich Dad, Poor Dad Series). We talk mostly about patents and protecting your intellectual property through signed documents. One of the inventions that was shown to us tonight that was actually patented in 2000 was a method for swinging on a swing. Yup that's right, anything under the sun can be patented! Now if I could only think up my own creative methods for a swing, I'd be rich!

FOREX

Back in May I was introduced to the wonderful world of FOREX. FOREX stands for Foreign Currency Exchange. It is more or less a giant market of international trade of money made possible by the virtually ever changing exchange rates of money. The smallest changes can result in the gain or loss of hundreds, or even thousands of dollars, depending on your odds and investment.

I use a company called
InterbankFX. I've been paper-trading with them since May. Paper trading means trading in the actual market with play money (nothing to lose). It's a wonderful way to learn how the FOREX market works. InterbankFX also offers what they call IBFXU which is an online "university" to learn the basics of FOREX. In the FOREX market like any other traded market there is the ability to automate trade with a computer program. InterbankFX calls these automated C++ (Version 4) or Visual Basic (Version 3) programs Expert Advisers. I've played with the Expert Advisor FrankUD quite extensively but haven't had a whole lot of luck.

At a glance FOREX is a great way to invest your money, if you have enough experience to know how to do it right. I suggest allowing a company who has a proven track record of automated programs to grow your money, as opposed to diving in all on your own. One smaller company I'd suggest looking into is
International Currency Strategies LLC. This company has a local Phoenix office and was co-founded by Dennis Lambson, a life-long CPA and a member of the Mesa Rotary Club.

ASU 33 - COLORADO 14

For those of you who weren't watching ASU had a killer game last night. TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) -- Rudy Carpenter threw for 269 yards and three touchdowns to help Arizona State rally from a two-touchdown deficit to defeat Colorado 33-14 on Saturday night. Colorado (1-1) jumped ahead 14-0 in the first quarter, but the sloppy Sun Devils overcame five personal fouls, an interception and two fumbles to take a 19-14 halftime lead. ASU (2-0) put the game away with 14 second-half points on 7-yard run by Ryan Torain and a 20-yard pass from Carpenter to Michael Jones, his second touchdown catch. Torain rushed for 91 yards. ASU's defense dominated for the second straight week. After limiting San Jose State to a field goal in the opener, the defense allowed only one touchdown and 204 total yards. The Sun Devils cut the lead to 14-7 on Carpenter's 12-yard pass to Jones late in the second quarter. ASU pulled within 14-13 on Troy Nolan's 26-yard interception return for a touchdown with 3:03 to go in the first half. Thomas Weber missed the extra point. ASU drove 86 yards in 1:11 to take a 19-14 lead on a 22-yard pass from Carpenter to Kyle Williams with 14 seconds to go in the first half. The two-point conversion failed. Carpenter completed 19 of 37 passes and was intercepted once.

They Decay Of Western Civilization

I was out doing my noble Google rep. job today, after a good night of bar and party hopping and I came across this. I pulled an immediate E-brake maneuver and snapped a pose of this glorious creation. Well done. My favorite part is how you can tell that they initially only wrote "Shih Tuzs, 423.0037" but they apparantly ran the design layout by their life coach who suggested they throw in "AKC PUPS" for clarification.

How To Be A Spy

Imagine if you were placed in the middle of the movie the Sandlot. You just hit your step-fathers irreplaceable Babe Ruth signed baseball over the fence of the neighborhood grouch who just so happens to own the neighborhood dog who has a striking resemblance to a wolverine. Have no fear! For about $60.00 you can covertly fly a rocket over his yard and film a video of the daring terrain you must conquer. Ok, so I know you are saying to yourself, "Theres no way, this can't be possible, daring mastermind technologies such as this are reserved for the military and Al-Qaida." Don't be fooled, you too can take over the world. Here's some more information about it.

As cool toys go this has got to be right up there, literally. The digital video rocket is capable of soaring 500 feet into the air and filming at the same time. This rocket, made by Estes, makers of model rockets for nearly 50 years, provides enthusiasts a view of the rockets liftoff and flight from the rockets point of view thanks to the impact-resistant digital camera in the nose cone. From as high as 500′, the camera can record a 12-second video at 640 x 480 pixel resolution or take up to three pictures per flight (stores 15 pictures).

It comes ready to fly, and the camera is oriented toward the earth during flight. The camera connects to a PC with the included USB cable to download the flight video. The rocket uses Estes C6-5 engines (sold below and at hobby stores) and includes a launch pad, camera software, and two sets of L1154 button-cell batteries for the camera. Injection-molded plastic. The rocket is available from Hammacher for $59.95 and a set of three C6-C5 engines will cost you $9.95. Found via GetUSB and TFTS, thanks guys.
