ASU 33 - COLORADO 14
For those of you who weren't watching ASU had a killer game last night. TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) -- Rudy Carpenter threw for 269 yards and three touchdowns to help Arizona State rally from a two-touchdown deficit to defeat Colorado 33-14 on Saturday night. Colorado (1-1) jumped ahead 14-0 in the first quarter, but the sloppy Sun Devils overcame five personal fouls, an interception and two fumbles to take a 19-14 halftime lead. ASU (2-0) put the game away with 14 second-half points on 7-yard run by Ryan Torain and a 20-yard pass from Carpenter to Michael Jones, his second touchdown catch. Torain rushed for 91 yards. ASU's defense dominated for the second straight week. After limiting San Jose State to a field goal in the opener, the defense allowed only one touchdown and 204 total yards. The Sun Devils cut the lead to 14-7 on Carpenter's 12-yard pass to Jones late in the second quarter. ASU pulled within 14-13 on Troy Nolan's 26-yard interception return for a touchdown with 3:03 to go in the first half. Thomas Weber missed the extra point. ASU drove 86 yards in 1:11 to take a 19-14 lead on a 22-yard pass from Carpenter to Kyle Williams with 14 seconds to go in the first half. The two-point conversion failed. Carpenter completed 19 of 37 passes and was intercepted once.
